Wordpress, the most popular CMS in the world, has removed Bitcoin from the payment options. Till recently, the crypto currency has been one of those supported by the blog service along with PayPal and international payment systems VISA and MasterCard.

The open-code platform, supporting more than 60 mln. sites was one of the first, that started to take bitcoins for payments. In November 2012 Wordpress allowed the customers to pay for the premium options with this cryptocurrency.

Despite the fact, the crypto currency has suddenly disappeared from the list of accepted payment options, the plugins from the third party developers using bitcoins are still working. Besides, the BitPay cryptocurrency processor, approving the bitcoin transactions for WordPress, still includes the platform to the 50K partners list on its website. Payment option with the cryptocurrency on Gravatar, owned by the parent company Wordpress is still enabled.

As informed at Coindesk, some companies that accept bitcoin report the decrease of using this payment option after the initial interest decline towards this cryptocurrency. To compare, Overstock has re-considered the sales volumes in cryptocurrency from $10-$15 down to $3 after the sales slowed down last year.

Whether the changes are the consequences of decrease in the sales volumes of premium options paid with bitcoins at WordPress or there are some other reasons for the CMS to terminate using this cryptocurrency it's not known for sure, however, the tendency is evident. Bitcoin is getting less popular worldwide.
